Before travelling to China, I had heard the phrase “Chinese-style modernization” To be honest, I didn’t really think much about what it meant. It sounded like something you read in reports . But once I actually spent time in the Chinese cities, the idea started to make more sense.

My first impression was simply the scale of everything. The cities feel very large and very active. At the same time, I remember being a bit surprised by how often modern buildings stand next to much older structures. In some streets you can see traditional elements of architecture not far from very modern towers. Somehow this mix does not feel strange there.

One thing I noticed quite quickly was how common electric vehicles are. After a couple of days I realised that many of the cars around me were electric. In Europe we talk a lot about energy transition, but here you can actually see it happening on the streets.

Looking back, what stayed with me most was this feeling of contrast: very modern infrastructure combined with a strong sense of historical continuity. Seeing this directly helped me understand what people might mean when they talk about Chinese-style modernization. It is not just about rapid development, but also about finding ways to connect that development with history, traditions and international cooperation.

来中国之前，“中国式现代化”于我而言，不过是报告文稿里抽象的专属提法，虽然偶有耳闻，却从未深究过其背后的深意。直到我踏上这片土地，穿梭于中国的城市街巷，这个曾经模糊的概念才逐渐变得立体可感、清晰生动。

初到中国，最震撼我的，是这里蓬勃涌动的生机与超乎想象的规模，城市里处处彰显着发展的活力。更让我惊喜的是，摩登楼宇与古建老宅常比邻相依，街巷间传统建筑韵味与现代摩天高楼交相辉映，古今交融的画面尽显独特魅力。我还留意到电动汽车的高度普及，在街道上往来的车流中随处可见。在欧洲，我们时常热议能源转型，而在中国，这场变革早已落地街头、成为现实。

此次行程最让我念念不忘的，是古今交织的独特质感：顶尖完备的现代基建与绵延厚重的历史文脉深度共生。这一切让我终于读懂了中国式现代化的真谛——它绝非单纯追求经济高速增长，更是秉持可持续发展理念，探寻一条让时代发展与历史传承同频共振、让科技创新与文化底蕴有机共生、让中国发展与世界进步相互交融的道路。
